New Year, Old Me
I spent the new year at home, resting from my training. Alcohol has lost its allure. Standing in a dark crowded room late into the night has lost its allure. I have achieved "unc" status.
The 22km long-run this past Sunday was rough. Lack of quality sleep + the residual fatigue building up from my aggressive training ramp is finally showing in my pace. Had to also avoid 2 pedestrian crashes - 1) Guy my age was walking out of my path then last minute decided to walk back into my path, so I had to physically move him with my arms just so we both don't collide awkwardly and 2) an elderly lady that was walking in my path and intentionally stopped directly in front of me. I feel the first one was "airheaded"-ness while the second felt intentional (maybe to get cash from me?). Either way, I can't risk injury over anything avoidable at this stage of my block.
Working on pacebook.app has also been a fun distraction the past week or so. I like "scratching my own itch" and "drinking my own champagne." I also miss developing. It's one of the few connections to my past life in tech that I can continue. I also like helping others. Building software allows me to have (remote) connection with my users.
My TEFL tutoring career is slowly progressing as well. I've begun tutoring an expat student in my building and it's been great vibes. Kids are the future. Pay is great relative to my experience level. And I don't have to commute anywhere to do it.
Resolutions this year:
- make money
- build apps
- run more
- spend more time with my wife and daughters
2026 is off to a great start.
